Biodiversity and biogeographical implications of silica-scaled chrysophytes (Chrysophyceae and Synurophyceae) of the northeast wetlands of Argentina

چکیده
Wetlands and water bodies in the Parana Delta River and Ibera System of northeast Argentina were studied for scaled chrysophytes. The Delta region of the Parana River is composed of a series of braided channels, streams and lagoons that extend over 17,500km2. Although the Delta is situated in the temperate zone, it experiences a more subtropical climate. The water ways of the Ibera System consist of interconnected ponds, lagoons, and creeks covering approximately 12,000 km2. Twenty sites were sampled and their physico-chemical data measured. Twenty-seven species belonging to the genera Spinijeromonas, Paraphysomonas, Chrysosphaerella, Chrysodidymus, Mallomonas and Synura were recorded and in all cases the geographical distribution of these taxa were significantly expanded. A new variety, Mallomonas pseudocratis var. deltaensis, is described. Lastly, the colorless flagellate Gyromitus disomatus was found to be abundant in sites from Ibera.

An inventory of scaled chrysophytes from North Carolina, USA, and their relationships to environmental variables
The distributions of silica-scaled chrysophytes in 27 freshwater ponds from three primary regions located along the Atlantic Coastal Plain of North Carolina, USA, relative to chemical gradients are described. Phytoplankton, periphyton, and surface sediments from each of the 27 sites were collected in May and June of 2001 and later analyzed extensively with both scanning electron microscopy (SEM...

The distributions of silica-scaled chrysophytes in 30 freshwater ponds located in the Ocala National Forest, Florida, U.S.A., relative to chemical gradients are described. Phytoplankton, periphyton, and surface sediments from each of the 30 sites were collected in March of 2000 and later analyzed extensively with both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM) for scaled chrys...
متن کاملScaled Chrysophyeeae and Synurophyeeae from Florida, U.S.A.: VI. Observations on the flora from waterbodies in the Ocala National Forest
Thirty-two taxa of silica-scaled Chrysophyceae and Synurophyceae are reported from waterbodies in the Ocala National Forest, Florida, U.S.A. Many of the lakes in the Ocala area are poorly buffered and low in both pH and specific conductivity. The organisms observed were clearly differentially distributed over a pH gradient, with the majority of species being typical of acidic localities. Sixtee...
متن کاملDiversity of silica-scaled chrysophytes in high-altitude Alpine sites (North Tyrol, Austria) including a description of Mallomonas pechlaneri sp. nov
To expand on the biodiversity study of the eastern Alpine region of North Tyrol, we investigated silica-scaled chrysophyte flora of unexplored high-altitude Alpine sites. We concentrated mostly on lakes that were 1000-2500 m above sea level; some of them were still partly ice covered. Overall, 27 taxa were recorded at 12 sites, despite 21 sites being sampled altogether. In general, the sites we...

Fars Province in southern Iran includes the main basins of the Kor River, Maharloo Lake, Persis, Hormoz and Karun. The Kor River Basin, as an inland basin, is an important part of the freshwater Ichthyodiversity. Cheshmeh Gomban (Gomban spring) and its surrounding wetlands are important water sources of this basin and water bodies of the Tashk and Bakhtegan Lakes. In this study, the ichthyodive...
